It can be the most dreaded part of a business meal or a group get-together: picking the wine.

Navigating a restaurant's wine list doesn't have to send you into psychotherapy, though. Here are a few simple rules that you can follow to make your wine selection the toast of the evening.

Music can enhance wine taste

Playing a certain type of music can enhance the way wine tastes, research by psychologists suggests.

The Heriot Watt University study found people rated the change in taste by up to 60% depending on the melody heard.

The researchers said cabernet sauvignon was most affected by "powerful and heavy" music, and chardonnay by "zingy and refreshing" sounds.

KENWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Vineyard manager Steve Thomas grasps the trunk of a zinfandel vine, a redwood of the vineyard, gnarled with age and planted in the days when irrigation meant a barrel of water on a horse-drawn cart.

The work horses and carts are long gone. But these old zin vines at Kunde Estate in Sonoma County still get their water the old fashioned way, from rain, dew and a deep root system.

Are there any specific events or tasks in the Month of May?

Yes, usually in May we begin to check the grape blooms to see if nutrient adjustments will be needed going into Late-Spring. Basically, we are looking at the petioles and leaves to see the general health of the new growth-about six inches growing out of the older, woody vines.
